The training covered both the theory and practice of next-generation sequencing: how the platforms work, library preparation, quality assessment with FastQC, alignment and interpretation. Working hands-on with datasets taught me data handling and troubleshooting, and prepared me to contribute to NGS research projects.

I was new to metagenomics, and this course took me through the complete pipeline: retrieving data from repositories, checking quality, downstream processing and interpreting results. By the end I was confident handling metadata and running the analysis on my own, both on Linux and with online tools.

The training gave me hands-on skills in metagenomic analysis with QIIME and 16S rRNA data, including quality control, OTU clustering, diversity analysis and taxonomic classification, along with its applications in health.

The programme gave me a strong base in metagenomics. I'm now comfortable with the command line, have started analysing my own dataset, and can understand and interpret most of the data I read in the literature.
