About This Course
Every bioinformatics project starts with finding the right data. This course teaches you how biological databases are organized and how to retrieve genes, proteins and genomes with confidence.
You then compare sequences with BLAST, build pairwise and multiple sequence alignments, interpret similarity scores, and construct and read phylogenetic trees, finishing with a complete homology analysis.
Who this course is for
- Biotechnology, microbiology and genetics students new to bioinformatics
- Researchers who need to identify or compare genes and proteins
- Anyone preparing for bioinformatics interviews or exams
Prerequisites
Basic biology. Introductory Python is helpful but not required.
Final project
Retrieve a gene and its protein, find homologues with BLAST, align them and build a phylogenetic tree with an interpretation note.
